Welcome everyone to the premiere episode or segment of what I am calling, you might be feeling with Jim Kleiber and today, the topic that I wanted to talk about was the school shooting that happened yesterday in texas.

And to just give you an understanding of where I want to go with the segment. You might be feeling. The idea is to explore how a wide variety of people might be feeling in reaction to different themes. And this specific theme is about a school shooting that happened yesterday in Texas where 19 Children were killed and two adult teachers were killed. I think something like 17 others were put in the hospital. And so the idea is to explore uh different questions as it relates to the shooting, and how a wide swath of people may have similar or differing feelings and this is not to excuse people's behaviors. This is more to try to understand and talk about the conversation on a much deeper level so that we can start to resolve some of these challenges that we face. So I'll get started in a few seconds here. But again, I'm just going to try to imagine how a wide variety of people may be feeling.

And this may get somewhat emotional intense. So if you do want to tune out at any time, feel free to just turn it off. And that's that's okay with me.

Mm hmm Okay. If you are a parent of one of the students who was shot and killed, you might be feeling, I dread you could not have ever imagined.

You might be feeling angry, you might be feeling helpless, you might be feeling.

Lost alone.

Oh, if you are, a parent of one of the kids who did survive, you might be feeling so grateful, but also so guilty and confused and unsure and angry and enraged that something like this could happen, And just, yeah, I'm not sure how to talk with your kid about it.

If you're.

A parent that has a kid that's around the same age, anywhere in the country you may be feeling, yeah, it's intense. Really, really scared. I'm really scared to send your kid to school. I'm really grateful they're still in your life. I'm just hopeful that something like that doesn't happen. But struggling really hard to feel that hope, struggling really hard to find it.

If you're a school leader, a teacher or superintendent or on the school board, he may be feeling stuck. You maybe you might be feeling.

Similar anger and rage. That how could something like this happen continue to happen in schools.

You might be feeling.

I don't even know. Mm hmm. If you are, a politician in that town, you might be feeling so overwhelmed.

You might be feeling so heartbroken.

Just think about all the pain in your city, Okay.

Feeling so, sad that this is the way that your city gets recognition around the country and around the world, that you're going to forever be known as that city. Mhm.

If you're a politician at, at the state level, maybe you're second guessing the the gun laws that you have in your country and your state in texas, maybe you're afraid that this means people want to take away all the guns. Mhm. Maybe you're feeling just helpless not knowing how to resolve this problem.

Maybe you I feel worried that it's it's more of a mental health thing than a gun thing.

Maybe you feel I'm scared to say how you really feel. Mm hmm.

Ah If you're a politician on the national level, at the federal level.

Maybe you're worried that this is going to continue to happen. Maybe you feel so tired that you continue to see this happen over and over again.

Maybe you feel Mhm.

Just.

At a loss of words, prison just out of energy. But you might be feeling more energized. You might be feeling more motivated than you have in years. You might be channeling that anger to finally get something done.

Or you might be feeling jaded. It might be feeling a desire to quit resignation.

If you're a gun manufacturer, you might be feeling if you work at a gun, if you own a gun manufacturer or whatever, you might be feeling, really frustrated and annoyed that these shootings continue to happen because it gives you a bad reputation. You might be feeling really scared that your industry will start to shrink. You might be feeling.

More worried about other types of attacks than you are school shootings.

If you're a person who strongly wants no controls on guns, maybe you feel you might be feeling sad that this happened the school shooting, but you might be feeling much, much, much more afraid that something else will happen. Maybe you feel much more afraid that the government will steal all of your property. Maybe you might be feeling more afraid of a gang coming in to your neighborhood and stealing your house or stealing all your possessions or killing you or killing your wife or or somebody else in your life, You might be feeling.

Conflicted and not. You know how to move forward and talk about this issue.

If you're a journalist, you might be feeling tired, you might be feeling so broken and so sad that Mhm. This is the thing that finally broke you. You might be feeling so proud that you worked in journalism but so torn at moments like this asking yourself, but does it really fix anything?

Has my reporting on this for years really solved any problems? You might be feeling, somewhat pessimistic and cynical.

And lastly, if you're, a kid.

You might be feeling really scared. You might be feeling.

I'm worried that you're not going to make it past the age of 10.

Mm hmm.

You might be feeling hopeful and motivated that when you finally grow up, you can go into office and solve this problem. You can protect kids.

Right? All right. That's the end for the segment that I'm gonna do today. I wanted to do 10 minutes and I hope you made it through it all and I would love to hear your comments on this. I'm going to share it and I hope, I hope it resonates with many of you. So thank you for going through this with me.
