Welcome to Emotional Combat with Jim Kleiber, a podcast to help us better understand the concept of emotional combat in our lives, and also practice dealing with emotional combat in our lives. So you may be asking two questions. One, what is emotional combat? And two, who is Jim Kleiber? So, first off, emotional combat. It is a term, a concept, a framing that I've come up with to classify the wide variety of emotional conflicts and attacks that are existing in our lives. It originated when I was teaching a class called Emotional Self-Defense and realized that we don't just get emotionally attacked once every so often. The attacks, the conflicts are non-stop. The internal conflicts, the external conflicts, they're happening all the time, no matter what happens in life. And so I realized I need to get better at dealing with this emotional combat. And the term has really helped me, but also so has the drills as well. And so who is Jim Clyburn? Obviously me. I'll be hosting the show. And I have been building tools to scale emotional well-being since 2012, to help us get better at the skills of dealing with emotion, a communicating motion, dealing with conflict, et cetera. So the first tool was Iphilio. It was a micro journaling app. Then I moved into emotional self-defense, which was kind of like a physical self-defense class, but for dealing with rejection, guilt tripping, compliments, and other types of emotional attacks and responding with love. And then I realized that the attacks were nonstop and I moved more into what I call emotional combat or a moco. And so I started creating audio drills to practice this and to learn how to deal with the situations, but also just to learn how to build the skills. And there's a wide variety on that as well. So those are the more explicit tools that I've been building, but there's also the implicit tools. There's the one-on-one conversations I've had with people, which I realized I could scale them by turning them into a podcast. So the other brother or sister podcast to this is called The Jim Kleiber Show, where I have daily gym Monday through Thursday reflections, but also a couple other segments to help people learn these lessons implicitly. So Emotional Combat with Jim Kleiber, this show, what is the format, what it's about? The format that I want to start with is a segment that I'm calling Emotional Combat as a blank. So Emotional Combat as a teacher, Emotional Combat as a police officer, Emotional Combat as a widow, Emotional Combat as a Trump supporter, Emotional Combat as whichever identity across the political, economic, geographic. Gender spectrum, regard, professional spectrum. The idea is a few things. One, to help the guest get better at realizing the different emotional conflicts that are happening in that part of their identity. Two, to help the listener realize that people who are in that identity may be going through these different types of conflicts. and three, to help people practice that skill while listening to the episode. So the format is, I'm imagining is going to be open conversation, but also structured conversation where I will actually use some of the Emoco drills, for example, short, structured, reputable questions to one, get the answers, but also to help people practice these skills. That's the initial intent. I hope that this can bring more explicit training to people and help people have a better understanding of what emotional combat means to me and what it means to a lot of other people and also gain some of the skills in dealing with this. This is just the start. If you would like to be a guest on the show, I would love for you to reach out.
